A quick news note from
Ron Castle:
eCommerce Shipping Costs and Hurricane Katrina
The Katrina
disaster and resulting spike in fuel prices is
having an immediate impact on shipping costs.
If you have dynamic ecommerce that generates
shipping costs on a real time basis from current
data, this should not a problem as far as covering
your cost is concerned.
If you are selling
items that have shipping costs built-in to
the price, or if you are using
PayPal with static shipping calculations,
you need to look at the percent of change in your
shipping costs versus your bracketed or specific
item shipping charges to see if you are covering
yours costs and not losing money.
A reminder that if you
are in the USA and especially the Southeast,
hurricane victims who have lost their homes will be
needing a place to stay for a while, a long while in
some cases. If you have a spare bed, a spare
bedroom or other accommodations, you can help by
signing up at
www.hurricanehousing.org where there are
presently shelter offerings for about 90,000 people.
We will need a lot more than this. I have
signed up.
Fuel prices in my area
of Tennessee are up about $1.40 per gallon this
week, an increase of about 33%. Makes me glad
my VW Jetta diesel gets 51 miles per gallon.
Katrina will have
worldwide impact. Read this story in today's
New Zealand Herald:
We are all in
this together and it's amazing what can
happen if we all work together.
I
expect success.
