News from Ron Castle www.roncastle.com

Greetings,

I haven't done a newsletter since before Christmas, shame on me.  I am the guy always telling my clients you need to do a newsletter every month, ha-ha.  Mea culpa.  I am just now digging out from a month in New Zealand (good on ya, mate).  Lot's happening in the SEO world.  Here are a few items that may be on interest.

Google Bigdaddy Update

Google is undergoing a major infrastructure upgrade with the nickname "Bigdaddy", which is now available at three data centers. In addition to 66.249.93.104 and 64.233.179.104, Bigdaddy is now up at 216.239.51.104.  If you want to search from one of the new centers, rather than typing www.google.com in your browser, enter http://66.249.93.104 and search from there.

Bigdaddy involves new infrastructure and is not just a data push or algorithm update. Google engineers say we can expect a new data center to be converted to Bigdaddy roughly every 10 days or so.  My internet connection defaults to one of the new datacenters when I go to http://www.google.com Your's may not, yet.

Don't be alarmed if you see your rankings jumping around or even vanishing for a day or two.  I have observed different rankings for my web and clients' webs from two different Google locations as a result of the changeover.  They have all come back.  You can go to http://www.google.co.uk or http://www.google.ca or http://www.google.com.au and compare your search on the www.  Google's worldwide infrastructure now exceeds 130,000 servers.  It takes 24-48 hours for updates to proliferate through their system.

For example, see below where I am #1 from my data center but not ranked from Australia for free SEO help.  The Australia data center shows only 36.6 million competing iterations.

Some Great Programs I Am Using

  • Registry Mechanic  Fix Windows registry problems.  You don't need to know anything about REGEDIT to use this program.  We use this program.  It is excellent!  If you have ever had regedit problems, you don't want to have them again?  About $30.
  • SiteUp v1.1  FREE!
Web Site Availability Monitoring Software for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
SiteUp monitors your web sites and warns you when any become unreachable (e.g. when a server crashes).  This program is a freebie from my friend in New Zealand presently living in Australia, Nigel Cross.

  • MailList King email list management and email marketing campaign software, integrates with Outlook.  I use it every day.  New version v.6.0.  Also, new Corporate version is suitable for multiple users on a network and can be remotely administered.  This email is being sent with one click of a button to hundreds of folks.  MailList King is a great program.  The version I use costs $99.50.

  • Spyware Doctor  Forget the free programs, get the best at a great price.  PC Magazine Editors Choice.  You can download the program for free and scan your PC to see how badly you need this excellent program.  When I first ran Spyware Doctor on my PC, I had 508 hazardous files on my C: drive that antivirus totally missed. About $30.
Search Engine Optimization Certification

If you are considering training to improve your SEO skills, I recommend John Alexander and Robin Noble's Search Engine Workshops.  Their training is excellent, they are terrific people and they offer REAL certification.  There are still a few openings for their late March program in Orlando.  Lean more about search engine optimization certification and check out their programs.

Content is King

You might be interested in this new page in my web regarding web content, why it is so important and what you can do to add content to your web.  Want to know how many pages Google sees in your web?  Search at Google for site:http://www.yourdomainname.com or whatever the appropriate extension.  If you have less than 100 pages, you need more content.

Better Web Marketing ROI

Axandra has a new program AxROI that tracks and analyzes AdWords traffic and every other aspect of your web visitation.  My client John D in Louisiana is using it, says it is excellent, well worth the money and very easy to set up.  Your web needs to be on a server with PHP.  We can put you on a PHP server for $95.40 per year, same place my web is hosted.
